stitching kittens

Finally the sunshine is here! It really feels like summer here in Cornwall and I’m appreciating the sea even more than ever. It’s been a hot week (for the UK) and I’ve been quite happy to stay inside for the middle of the day working on kitten kits.

I’ve been playing around with coloured printed panels and different coloured threads to create two kits for the kitten pattern, one will be a hoop kit and the other will be a little kitten cushion. I wanted to make them simple enough for a child or beginner to stitch as it is quite a simple pattern. The hoop will be in pinks and the cushion will be in some folky colours.

I am in love with these folky colours for the little cushion. The one I’ve stitched here is a little to small to be suitable for beginners so I’ve enlarged it a little and am waiting patiently for the sample.

For anyone who has the pattern here is the folky colour palette

DMC 728 a golden yellow

DMC 350 an orange red

DMC 581 a bold green

DMC 931 a smoky blue

DMC 930 a darker smoky blue

I’m tempted to use these colours on the friends pattern to create a bolder version of that too.

Playing around with colours is one of the things that I enjoy most in embroidery. It’s always fun to revisit a pattern and use a totally different colour palette.

The folky kitten cushion is only going to be a little thing (about 25cm tall I think) but it will be perfect for teaching a beginner or a child to embroider.

If you already have the pattern you could enlarge it to make it easier for a child to stitch by photocopying it at a bigger percentage.

So I encourage you to take out an old pattern and stitch it up in completely different colours just for fun.

If you want to try the kitten pattern you can find it here.

Now I am going to enjoy the warm weather and have a quiet swim. I hope you have a lovely week whichever season you are in right now
